About the Author: “Laura Steven is an author and journalist from the northernmost town in England. She has published several books for young adults—such as the bestselling Every Exquisite Thing, YA Book Prize-shortlisted The Society for Soulless Girls, and CWIP award-winning The Exact Opposite of Okay—many of which have been widely translated and optioned for TV and film. When she’s not writing, you can probably find her trail running, reading chunky fantasy novels, baking cookies, playing old men at chess, or ignoring her husband and son to perfect her Stardew Valley farm” (Bio from author’s Goodreads).

“You have faith in all of humanity. You have faith in love. Please, have faith in me.”

Our Infinite Fates follows two star-crossed lovers as they fall in love and kill each other over a thousand lifetimes. Evelyn has been reincarnating for centuries, and she can remember all of her past lives. In every one, she’s murdered before her eighteenth birthday. Arden is supernaturally linked to Evelyn and has hunted and killed her throughout every lifetime despite his feelings for her. When Arden murders Evelyn, they both die and are reborn in new bodies. In this life, Evelyn’s younger sister needs her for a bone marrow transplant to survive. Evelyn needs to fight her love for Arden and break their curse once and for all—as soon as she learns why they are cursed in the first place.

I have always loved books that span decades and centuries, such as The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. When two people have lived in each other’s orbit through so many lifetimes, they have an indescribable connection that transcends the average romance. Evelyn and Arden had an interesting dynamic because Arden knew the origins of their curse, but Evelyn did not. She couldn’t remember the details that far back, even when Arden remembered every single thing that had happened to them. Since the story is told from Evelyn’s point of view, we are also left in the dark. Their history is slowly revealed to the reader through flashbacks to different decades, where they changed genders, ethnicities, and social classes. I liked their complicated relationship and the internal battles both Evelyn and Arden fought. However, I did wish we got to see more of the small moments that built their relationship as well as their countless moments before death. I felt like I was being told about their love more times than I was being shown it. The twist towards the end was intriguing, but I expected a bit more. Despite this, the story still found its way into my heart. Much like The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Our Infinite Fates was a slow burn instead of a fast flame. It may have taken a while, but I still fell in love by the bittersweet end.

Our Infinite Fates releases on March 4th, 2025.
